A fire of unknown cause occurred in St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church on June 25, 2010. The fire appears to have started between the altar and the pipe organ, and did considerable damage to the 50 year old sanctuary building.
Project Manager Steve Liker arrived on site Tuesday morning to begin work, concentrating first modifying on the fellowship hall, while fire investigators worked in the sanctuary building to determine the source of the fire. A temporary wall will be installed, splitting the fellowship hall into worship space and a dining area, as this congregation likes to eat and fellowship, as well as worship. Structural engineers and other consultants are assisting GTB in preparing a plan for restoration of the sanctuary building, so that work on the structure can begin as soon as possible.
