Northwest Nazarene University

Johnson Sports Center

Nampa, Idaho

A fire late on Friday March 2, 2008 caused over Three million dollars of damage to the Johnson Sports Center at Northwest Nazarene University (NNU). Guide One Taylor Ball (GTB) was informed on Sunday of the loss and had Eric Johnson on site late that day.

Since GTB had worked on a project for NNU a few years earlier they were very familiar with our abilities and we were instructed to start work on Monday March 4. The building included over 90,000 square feet of space including a Field House with three basketball courts, a Gym with bleachers and skybox suites for their basketball teams, indoor soccer field and a student area.

Much of the facility was coated with smoke. By ice blasting the walls and ceilings GTB was able to remove the smoke. Most of the facility was constructed with a steel frame that had been coated with spray on fireproofing. All the fire proofing had to be removed and then replaced. This was a time consuming and very messy process.

A dinner for the University President was scheduled for April 20 in the filed house. Immediately GTB set forth a plan to have this facility ready for the dinner. While the room was not a finished product the dinner was held successfully.

Trailers with locker facilities and office space were brought in to accommodate the summer sports clinic the University holds annually and they were able to keep their program the following summer.

The GTB team was able to complete all work in four and one half months and they had their entire facility back by mid July. All punch list items were completed by August 8 for students use for the new school year.
