A fire caused extensive damage to the Flatbush Reformed Church community center on January 13, 2010. The Flatbush Reformed Church sits on the oldest religious site, in Brooklyn, NY formed in 1654. The damaged community center presents a unique feature in its main hall that of a glass ceiling which radiates light from the roof top sky light.

GuideOne Insurance and GuideOne Taylor Ball Construction (GTB) received notification of the fire loss on January 14, with their representatives arriving on site to begin emergency mitigation and scope of loss development the next morning January 15. The church recognizing the value of a partnership with GuideOne Insurance and GTB, gave authorization to complete the restoration of its community center.

Preliminary damages revealed that the interior sustained primarily heavy smoke and soot damage, with minor structural damage to the ceilings and roof system. GTB completed the development of the scope of loss and at the direction of the insured, began the restoration and reconstruction process immediately. Reconstruction is anticipated to take eight to 12 months.
