December 31, 2010 – Tornados struck the Central Hills Baptist retreat camp located 75 miles north of Jackson, MS. Central Hills Baptist Retreat is a Christian retreat for boys and girls ages 5 to 18. The camp consists of some of the prettiest 722 acres of woodland in the heart of Mississippi. Boys and Girls camps begin in May and run through early August, with other conferences, camps, and retreats run August through May.
Due to the nature of its operation and timing of its upcoming camps, Central Hills Baptist Retreat retained GTB for its camp rebuild and has asked that priority buildings be reconstructed and back online by May of 2011. The month of May is a significant for the camp, in that May represents the camp's spring and summer kick off with hundreds of campers registered. In all 17 buildings were severely damaged or completely destroyed. At the open of business January 4, 2011, GTB was notified of the loss and immediately dispatched their catastrophic response team. Eric Johnson, Vice President of GTB, arrived on site January 5, 2011, and began an immediate triage of all storm damaged buildings, while camp officials determined which buildings would be needed, on a priority basis. |
